One real advantage that Beatport Pro offers is ability to tag tracks with additional details like genre, mood, instruments and publishing which could be useful when searching for tracks in the heat of a set.

Mar 30, 2017 2. Set traktor to external mode. Use a traktor sound card ( i used audio 2 ) now everything works except scratchine is sloppy, searching and pitch bending fine. Popping back to traktor reminded me of how tight the beat grid is, and how dropping the a grid marker was a sure thing. Something pioneer really must copy! Nov 01, 2010 Time to exhale; the Traktor Kontrol S4 four-deck controller for Traktor Pro is here, and DJ Tech Tools has a full review. Native Instruments’ first all-in-one, 4-channel controller/soundcard for Traktor Pro comes with the specialized Traktor Pro S4 software, as well as some lofty expectations.

There’s a myriad of ways to set up Traktor to do just about anything you want. These eight tips will help you tame Traktor and stay in control, so you can concentrate on DJing like a pro.

There’s a myriad of ways to setup Traktor to do just about anything you want to. Don’t be overwhelmed! These eight tips will help you tame Traktor and stay in control, so you can concentrate on DJing like a pro.

Pro

Tip 1 - Crossfade Duration

Crossfading is really important when DJing and Traktor is able to automatically crossfade between decks. It’s possible to change the duration of the automatic crossfade by going into the Preferences > Mixer section and choosing a duration from the Crossfader section. You can also vary the character of the fade from smooth to sharp.

Tip 2 - Record Your Performance

At the top right hand corner of Traktor’s main window, you will see a tiny cassette tape icon. Click on this and you can record your whole performance as a stereo audio file with options including cutting to start new recordings, setting gain and also broadcasting live over the internet if you have configured this in the Preferences.

Tip 3 - Precision Control

If you hold down the Shift key on your keyboard while moving, most variable controls in Traktor – for example the tempo sliders or FX rotary controls – you can make smaller and more precise changes. Releasing the Shift key returns the rate of movement to normal, which is a much swifter way to make dramatic changes.

Tip 4 - Quick Loop

Popping In Traktor Pro

Pressing the loop length buttons in any playback deck while it is running will place a loop around the current track of whatever length the button denotes. So for example if you hit the ½ button right on a beat, it should create an instant half bar loop. Click on any other button to change the length of the loop, making it easy to quickly go to smaller and smaller divisions before releasing the loop back into the track playing normally.

Tip 5 - On The Fly Additions

Drop a loop or a track into the sample slot under a deck and control it live to add extra elements to a mix without having to use a whole deck to do so. They can be triggered and retriggered independently of the decks, synced with them and can also use effects. Use these to add new parts on the fly while performing.

Tip 6 - Beat Marker Options

Click the arrow button under the active button for any deck and you will see a window that lets you manage beat markers, loop controls and the grid that Traktor uses for analysis for each track, as well as settings for all of these. Load and save settings here, and customize the way that the software responds. Melodyne vst plugin free download full version.

Tip 7 - Browser Filter

Traktor Pro 3.1

In the file browser you can click the filter arrow to search not just by file name but also by attribute like artist, bitrate, label, producer and so on. One of the most handy uses for searching in this way is to search by BPM, enabling you to quickly identify tracks of a similar or identical tempo to the one that’s playing. If nothing matches exactly, Traktor will display tracks with similar BPMs.

Tip 8 - Real-time Effects

If you like lots of effects and have a powerful laptop, you can go into Preferences > FX and switch from 2 to 4 FX units. The FX panels can also be switched to work as either single or group effects. They can be set independently per slot, and you can even tailor what effects will appear in the list. So if there are some that you never use, simply leave them invisible.

  • I’ve just installed the new version of traktor, and I cannot go back to the previous version as both laptops were wiped clean.

When using my laptop speakers. Headphones. Audio 6 soundcard there is a crackle and pops on every song.
Not very loud but you can notice it and it’s very annoying.
This doesnt happen in iTunes Or ableton when playing a song through speakers , headphones etc

    So I know it’s traktor.

Is there anyway of going back to previous version or does anyone have this problem and has found a solution?
    Thanks

I hope so as I will have to use traktor eh tonight. Hopefully I can get it fixed before Friday.

Increase buffer size in audio settings??

Re-install sound card drivers (if you remembered to install them in the first place 🙂 )

    bob6397

buffer size = latency in traktor settings 🙂

Also check that it isn’t set as the default windows playback device. If it is change that to the built in soundcard, then restart all running programs. This can cause sample rate issues as chrome/IE/firefox/iTunes run your soundcard at 44.1kHz but traktor will want to run at 48kHz or 96kHz – this can cause crackling.

^Ignore the arrow – Just pointing out the settings page. Make sure the latency is at least 512, then decrease until it starts crackling again. This will fins the lowest level it can be on your system (lower = less time delay through soundcard)

At the risk of sounding stupid……….

If you’re on a Windows laptop try switching off EVERYTHING that is not essential to Traktor.
    ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
    CD/DVD RW
    Wireless and Bluetooth
    Webcam
    On board sound card

Also look at your background tasks and “end process” on anything unnecessary.

What OS are you running? Are you on an older version of Windows/OSX (You still havent said which – that could really help here as problems are different on different systems.) ???

Why can’t you change the latency when going through the laptop speakers?? I can. (I am on VDJ8 though so it’s a bit different….)

Is it just the laptop speakers that are crackling or does the Audio 6 crackle too?

I am still going with a driver and/or setting (most likely latency) problem.

Mat, I’ve had the exact same problem and it seems that a lot of users have had this issue with 2.7.3. I’ve found that if you zoom into the waveform at the points where the sound issues are, it can be seen that there are audio gaps and omissions repeatedly in the track. Therefore it is not a sound card issue, but in fact an issue with the software. When I’ve reverted back to using 2.6.8 there is no longer such issues with the audio. Therefore it seems to be an issue with 2.7.3. I’m waiting on a reply from the Native Instruments support team with regards to this problem but if it’s simply a glitch in the software hopefully it will be fixed soon with an update. This guy shows the problem, where it seems to be a bit more extreme in his case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up7cXUOYNok
